There’s nothing more inviting than a glass of beer with friends and even family on spring. And what better way to have it than to join the Oktoberfest in Brisbane.

Oktoberfest is an annual tradition to celebrate the creation and love of beer. The event started in Germany until it was picked up by several countries all over the world. Once October strikes, the entire world makes a toast.

Unlike other countries, though, Brisbane tries to stick with the original tradition. Moreton Bay is easily transformed into one huge beer garden inspired by that of Munich. Tables will be set up just underneath the fig trees or under the bright lights of the moon and stars. If not, you can go into the Oktoberfest tent, which spans no less than 80 meters long.

There will be overflowing food—and, of course, several kegs of beer—for all those who want to join. Most of the dishes are still German inspired and are definitely known to be great partners to the chilly beverage. There will be plenty of activities too. You can hear live musicians performing country songs or German music as well as dancers who would move their way like the Germans would.

Competitions are also abundant. It’s normal to get challenged to yodeling or see women walking down ramps for the Ms. Oktoberfest. Men, on the other hand, can participate in the Bavarian Strongman.

Oktoberfest is not merely for the adults. The children are treated well too. Some dishes are kid friendly like pastries, cakes, pork hocks, pretzels, and sausages, which can go well with their favorite soda or other beverage. There will also be face painting and great children’s rides. Puppet theater may also be put up for their enjoyment. Popular celebrities such as those of Channel 10 can also drop by for a visit.

You surely don’t want to miss out Oktoberfest, so you should properly choose your Brisbane Oktoberfest accommodation. There are great resorts and hotels near Moreton Bay, one of which is Bridgewater Terraces. Apartments are all self containing, with complete laundry and kitchen facilities. The rooms are huge and can accommodate up to 7 people. They also have great views of the garden or the swimming pool. When you’re not in the festival, you can lounge in the well-manicured lawn or perhaps meet up with new friends in the barbecue area for grilled steaks and burgers.

Would you like to engage in a noteworthy activity while in Brisbane? Why don’t you register for the annual Sunday Mail Suncorp Bridge fun run? It is an activity that gathers almost 50,000 people for one day.

The event, held every August, is not just your typical fun run. It is in support of various organizations, which will serve to be the receivers of the proceeds. There are also no very strict guidelines when it comes to competing. Anyone can do so, as long as they are fit to run. In fact, you may just find moms with their infants on hand or with pushed strollers and prams. You can also see kids competing in two categories.

Participants can compete in two ways: individual and teams. For the latter, a team can be composed of up to 5 individuals, competing in the same distance, which can be 5km or 10km. The individual, on the other hand, can compete in only one distance.

Families can look forward to several activities right after the event. There will be overflowing of food and beverages. Everyone can sit and watch live performances from well-known local and international bands. Market stalls selling a wide variety of goods, from the local produce to arts and crafts, will be put up.

It is spoken by many that the atmosphere in the Suncorp Bridge fun run is really fun. Because of this, it has attracted thousands of people, making it the second biggest fun run in the entire country.

It does not matter if you are an avid runner. There are running courses available for twelve weeks. Professionals will teach you how to combat fatigue or how to run properly to give you an edge over the others.

If you do not like to compete, you have the option to watch from the side lines. Just make sure you can take note of the road closures. Otherwise, you will never get to see the competition if you stay at the wrong place. You can also volunteer. The run usually invites hundreds of volunteers who stay in various areas, such as the water section or the recover area.

Do not miss out this run. Book Brisbane accommodation that brings you closer to the route or even the starting line. Bridgewater Terraces can do that for you. Moreover, the apartments offers very comfortable and relaxing room, something you definitely need after the run.

It may be referred to in different names — Royal Exhibition, the Royal Queensland Show, or the Exhibition — but one thing is for sure: ‘the Ekka’ is something you should not dare miss.

There are plenty of reasons why you should take part in the Ekka. For one, it’s known to be the last public event in Queensland before Christmas. Second, for several years, it has brought thousands of people from all over the world, a great time to meet new people and warm up with old friends. Most of all, it’s a very huge gathering that spells nothing but “fun” in all capital letters.

What can you expect from Brisbane’s Ekka? Plenty, and all of them for a very affordable ticket. The kids will surely love the presence of a myriad of farm animals, from sheep to cattle and ponies. They may even get a free lecture and a bag of freebies made up of chocolates. If you wish to have some time moving around, you can let them watch child-friendly performances such as Shrek or New MacDonald’s. These will get them glued to their seats. You can also leave them mesmerized in a Dinosaur Lecture and Dig. Who knows, they may take home some fossils.

Win or lose, it doesn’t matter. The different competitions guarantee a whole lot of learning and enjoyment. You have bush poetry, wood chopping or lumberjacking, fine arts, equestrian, and quilting. You can also stay in the sidelights and watch as the farmers compete in combining fleece breeds, apiculture, the Royal Queensland Dog Show, young judges, and pisiculture.

What’s a sideshow alley with no rides? Go back to your childhood days or bring a lot of smiles—and shrills—to your loved ones. Get dainty in the carousel or be wild aboard the roller-coaster.

Give in to your gastronomic needs with your varied choices of cuisines and menus. For your light fares, you can try coffee and sandwich in the Coffee Club. Go Italian in CJ’s Pasta or Confit Bistro. Sate House offers Asian delectable meals.

The Taste of Queensland Stage will also never run out of talks—and food. Start the morning with a discussion and a sip of tea and end with a good perspective and a full plate of Australian cuisine called Multicultural Queensland.

Don’t leave early; the night dazzles with a fireworks show.

Indeed, Brisbane’s Ekka is one event that makes your Brisbane stay truly memorable. To add to that, you can stay in Bridgewater Terraces, which offers you the comfortable and convenient Brisbane accommodation during your stay.

Brisbane is the ultimate hub for arts and culture. There are just too many things you can check out that will help explore your creativity and open your mind to the uniqueness and heritage that are actually still very much alive in this bustling Queensland city.

You have the countless art galleries run both by the government and private individuals. Two of the biggest are the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, which is the biggest museum for contemporary arts in the country, and Queensland Art Gallery, which contains more than 9,000 pieces of artworks. These include paintings and sculptures. You can also get in touch with their information center to know if they have ongoing exhibits or special talks, which you can participate.

Blessed with great weather, fun-loving people go out of their homes and Brisbane accommodation to lounge in the Southbank Parklands. The seventeen-hectare land has several playgrounds and swings for the children and barbecue areas for those who want to have informal gatherings. There are benches and bike for hires. You can also stroll in the famous Arbour, considered to be a horticultural masterpiece in the world.

Then there’s the Brisbane Wheel. It gives you a unique way of viewing the city up in the air. The grounds, theaters, and other free areas in the city are easily transformed into artistic venues. Sometimes art students, from musicians to dancers, would hold impromptu performances for passersby. Operas, concerts, and dance recitals are fairly common. The biggest convergence of them will be on the annual Brisbane Arts Festival. The festival itself has a fiery highlight known as the QBE Riverfire.

In Ipswich, there’s the BAM Festival, a new one that’s meant to provide a venue for a wide variety of musicians. The songs can range from folk or country to metal or grunge.

Immerse yourself to the nature that makes up Brisbane. You can charter a yacht that can take you to Fraser Island. It’s inhabited by plenty types of birds. The powdery sands are perfect for sunbaking, while the waters are inviting to surfers. Adventure-driven tourists can test their stamina and competitive spirit in a 4×4 wheel drive.

Markets are also abundant, and they are open in different days of the week. Stalls offer various things, ranging from food to arts and crafts for souvenirs.

There are also great Brisbane accommodation options that can take you to cultural spots in no time. You may want to check out Bridgewater Terraces as a start.

Brisbane is one of the most memorable cities in the world, with millions of visitors yearly attesting to such fact. However, you haven’t been to Brisbane if you haven’t gone to these five must see Brisbane icons:

Brisbane’s Bridges

The Gateway Bridge
This bridge spans the north and the south areas of the Brisbane River. Brisbane’s traffic relies heavily on this bridge. In fact, its usefulness prompted the construction of a twin bridge. This bridge also assists landing aircrafts by providing directional guide. Snap a photo of you with this bridge as backdrop and know you are truly in no place else but Brisbane.

The Story Bridge
If Sydney has the Harbour Bridge, Brisbane has its very own Story Bridge. This bridge connects the north and the south from across the river bend. This bridge is most beautiful when seen with beautiful fireworks during the annual Riverfire event.

The Gabba

If Melbourne prides of the MCG and Perth of the WACA, Brisbane has the Gabba. Originally named as the Brisbane Cricket Ground, this site will truly be an icon with visiting especially for sports enthusiasts. Watch the Brisbane Lions play or the Bulls and have a true Brisbane experience you will never forget.

South Bank

South Bank is Brisbane’s centre of social life and entrainment. This is where visitors and residents come together to partake in events, dip into the man-made beach, shop, dine and drink, and simply have fun. This is the lively side of Brisbane that all visitors must experience while in the city.

The Historical Buildings

Brisbane’s architecture is quite interesting to many. The Old Windmill on Wickham Terrace, the Customs House strategically located beside the river, the City Hall which used to be the city’s tallest structure, and Cathedral of St. John with its majestic Gothic architecture, are among must-see buildings in Brisbane.

The Brisbane River

This River represents the foundation from which this city developed and continues to develop. The river is truly the best asset of the city. Take a cruise around the river while appreciating the beautiful coastline and experience Brisbane’s magic.

Brisbane has so much more to offer aside from these landmarks and icons. Visit the city today and experience a side of Australia you will never see anywhere else. While in the area, stay at the Bridgewater Terraces and enjoy Brisbane accommodation at its very best.

There are literally hundreds of things to do in Brisbane. It offers a wide range of activities that every visitor, whatever age, background or lifestyle, will truly enjoy. But if you are pressed for time, here are five things you should at least do while in Brisbane:

1. Checkout the world famous landmarks of Brisbane
Spend a few hours to appreciate some of the iconic structures of Brisbane. Be amazed at the Batman Building (a building much like that in Gotham City), the international cricket ground The Gabba, and of course, the bridges of Brisbane.

2. Go shopping at the Queen Street Mall
This mall in Brisbane prides of being the one-stop shopping area in the city. It is easy to get around here and it sells everything you need and more – from the largest world-class brand shops and medium sized boutiques to smaller, local niche stalls.

3. Visit South Bank.
Brisbane is also very popular for their SouthBank, a parkland right in the middle of the city. South Bank is the ultimate destination for a great afternoon in Brisbane. You can delight at the man-made beach, enjoy alfresco dining in cafes, or take a walk around their walking paths. The Southbank is also the entertainment city of Brisbane with its cinemas, museums and live entertainment.
4. Enjoy nature at Roma Street Parklands or Brisbane Botanical Gardens
Brisbane is a city endowed with nature’s beauty. Spend a quiet afternoon walk in Roma Street Parkland while enjoying nature’s breeze, or relax and watch the world go by at the Botanical Gardens. If you are in for some more nature tripping, you can visit Mt. Coot-tha reserve (a parkland and bush) which is roughly 7 kilometres from the city centre. Enjoy an afternoon picnic on the clear day and enjoy the stunning views all the way to Moreton Island.

5. Visit the Australia Zoo.
Steve Irwin has devoted his lifework to the Australian Zoo. When in Brisbane, take a 45 minute drive north to Beerwah and drop by this zoo and appreciate Australia’s exciting wildlife with kangaroos, crocodiles and koalas.

Kangaroo Point Cliffs—it’s one of the most perfect hideaways when you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city without really getting too far. It’s only a few minutes away from the Brisbane central business district.

The peninsula is known for so many things, and one of these is it is an excellent picnic ground. For one, you have Captain Burke Park, which is actually a free park with plenty of amenities. It has its own playground for the kids, enough supply of water, an information center, wheelchair access, a number of toilets, and several areas for picnic and grilling barbecues. You can also stay at the shelter shed when you need to rest. The rotunda is one of the highlights of the park and an excellent meet-up place.

You are also close to Brisbane’s South Bank Parklands, which are huge. It is more than 15 hectares. Like Captain Burke, it has quite a number of places where you can cook your favorite grilled steaks and barbecue as well as picnic tables and chairs. The kids can play on the swings and slides on the playground. After meals, you can all proceed to the Arbour, which is regarded as a horticultural wonder in the world.

Having a picnic at Kangaroo Point Cliffs will also give you a chance to catch a glimpse of the main city which is just across the river and across the peninsula. You will also notice the unique rock formation, which is actually man made. It’s a product of the constant mining in the area for years few centuries ago.

It would be an added bonus for you that other interesting attractions are also nearby. You can climb the Story Bridge, which provides you a 360-degree view of the entire Queensland and Gold Coast. You may also travel to Fortitude Valley, which has hundreds of bars, pubs, clubs, and restaurants. South Bank also has a complex with fashion boutiques, art shops and galleries, and al fresco cafes.

Indeed, Kangaroo Point Cliffs is one of the best places to go to for outdoor activities. If you if need of Kangaroo Point accommodation, consider staying at Bridgewater Terraces. This well-recognized apartment complex has a number of self-contained apartment with kitchen, laundry, and comfortable bed.

Want a well-deserved holiday in Brisbane? There is no better time than now to start planning. One of the most important considerations when planning a Brisbane holiday is booking your Brisbane accommodation, and choosing the right holiday home is key to a successful, no-less-than-perfect holiday. Here are some tips for choosing Brisbane accommodation that will allow you a positive, memorable experience:

1. Decide on a date then check for availability.
Determine whether the hotel of choice is available during your travel dates. This should narrow down your search to only those available during the said dates and duration.

2. Check the facilities, features and amenities provided by the hotel.
Find out what furnishings, fixtures, and amenities are available in the hotel. You have to make sure that your accommodation of choice meets all your needs. For instance, if you want a room that has a well-equipped kitchen, then you may find it best to go for a serviced apartment than a regular hotel room. Also, if you are travelling as a family or as a group, make sure that the available rooms can accommodate everyone.

3. Check photos.
Most hotels today offer photos of their rooms to give their guests an idea about what to expect during their stay. Look for photos of the bedroom, the living areas, the bathroom, the views and the kitchen, if available.

4. Consider the price.
The prices of Brisbane accommodation can vary. When you consider the price, know that the cheapest does not always mean best. As they say, you get what you pay for. What you should look for when choosing an accommodation is a price that offers the best quality. Higher-priced properties, hotels and locations usually reflect higher standards in terms of facilities, furnishings and features.

5. Read customer reviews.
Feedback and customer reviews are very important to consider. These reviews are real-life feedback regarding the services, the facilities, and possible problems encountered (if any) during their stay.

Many holiday goers today prefer staying at serviced Brisbane apartments over equivalent hotel rooms. This should not be surprising as serviced apartments like what we offer here at Bridgewater Terraces provide you with so much more for a delightful and comfortable vacation.

With the growing need for cheap international travel options and the increase in demand in terms of level of comfort and sophistication by travellers, serviced accommodation have become more and more popular in the recent years. Serviced apartments are fully-furnished, self-contained apartments designed to provide all amenities for daily living, usually for short to even long term stays. Serviced apartments are usually a lot less expensive than hotel rooms of the same size. Although hotel rooms can provide similar facilities, serviced apartments offer the comfort of added space in the form of dining rooms, living rooms, kitchens and attached bathrooms.
