5 Christmas events in Brisbane that kids will love!

Every year, Brisbane gets transformed into a magical holiday destination during the month of December. And this December is no different. There are plenty of Christmas events scheduled to take place. Best of all, they are all family friendly!

As a Brisbane local, I thought that this would be a great time to outline 5 Christmas events in Brisbane that your kids are sure to love. But before you start planning your itinerary, you’ll need to book family-friendly accommodation in Brisbane. As such, I recommend that you stay with us here at Bridgewater Terraces. 1. Christmas Parade

Christmas Parade

The Christmas Parade is arguably Brisbane’s favourite family tradition. During this parade, the streets of Brisbane come alive with merriment, music and dozens of entertaining performances. Brisbane’s Christmas Parade is eagerly awaited by locals and it also draws in thousands of visitors. The parade is free and is sure to entertain and delight people of all ages.

The Christmas Parade takes place in the Queen Street Mall 7:00am-7:30pm every day from  December 16 to December 24.

The Queen Street Mall is a 10-minute drive or a 25-minute walk away from our family-friendly accommodation in Brisbane offered by Bridgewater Terraces.

2. Christmas Movies in the Park

Christmas Movies in the Park is another fun filled event that hits Brisbane every December. This event runs for a week and features free outdoor movie screenings for people of all ages. Three movies will be screening every evening from onwards. Food trucks will also be at the venue.

Christmas Movies in the Park is held each evening from 7:30pm at the Roma Street Parkland Amphitheatre, screening from December 10 to December 16.

By staying at Bridgewater Terraces, Roma Street Parklands will be just a 10-minute drive from your accommodation.

3. Christmas Beach Cinema

Many of our past guests have attended the Christmas Beach Cinema and this year looks to be no different. The Christmas Beach Cinema is a wonderful setting where family friendly movies are screened twice a night at South Bank. This is a great environment that offers a picnic-like atmosphere and lots of fun for families. Make sure to take a picnic rug along if you’re attending this free event.

The Christmas Beach Cinema is held each night at South Bank Parklands from December 16 to Friday, December 23.

South Bank Parklands is just a 10-minute drive or a 20-minute walk from the family-friendly accommodation that we offer here at Bridgewater Terraces.

4. Giggle and Hoot’s Magical Christmas

This December, Brisbane has something great in store for children – Giggle and Hoot’s Magical Christmas. This live musical will feature many characters, including Jimmy Giggle, Hoot, Hootoclaws, Pirate Hootbeard, Gigglefangs and many others. While this show is a treat for children, parents will find this show worth watching as well.

Giggle and Hoot’s Magical Christmas show is on December 10 at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre from 10:00am. Ticket range from $39.90 to $54.90. You can purchase tickets here.

5. Christmas Fireworks

Christmas Fireworks

Christmas is always celebrated with fireworks in Brisbane and this year is no different. Over four nights this December, fireworks and dazzling pyrotechnics will light up Brisbane’s skies. Make sure to watch this scintillating display of fireworks to make your Christmas holiday a magical one! 

This year, you can watch the Christmas Fireworks displays in South Bank every night from December 20 to December 23.
