6 Brisbane sporting events worthy of your attendance

Everyone know that Aussies are sports mad. Cricket, football, rugby, horse racing, Motorsports; whatever the sport, it’s sure to draw a huge following.

If you’re a bit of a sports nut, then you should definitely attend at least one sporting event on your Brisbane holiday. As a Brisbane local myself, I will list 6 of the hottest sporting events to hit Brisbane this summer. These events just happen to all be held in close proximity to the Brisbane accommodation that we offer at Bridgewater Terraces. *hint hint*.

Make sure to attend at least one or if possible, all of these events on your holiday.

1. Queensland Bulls home games

Drop by the Gabba to watch the Queensland Bulls in action in the Sheffield Shield competition. Despite being domestic cricket matches, the atmosphere at the Gabba is simply electrifying. You can cheer along with other spectators and partake in all the fun.

If you’re a cricket fan, or even if you’re visiting and have never seen a game of cricket before, this is one match not to miss.

Queensland Bulls will be playing from February 1-4 and March 16-19 at the Gabba. The Gabba is just a 7-minute drive from the Brisbane accommodation we offer at Bridgewater Terraces.

2. Commonwealth Bank International Test Cricket Series

The 1st Test of the Commonwealth Bank Test Match is between Australia and Pakistan at the Gabba. If you’re a big cricket fan, then experiencing the atmosphere of the Gabba is the best (and only) way to watching the Test Match. 

The Commonwealth Bank Test Match kicks off on December 15 at the Gabba, which is just 7-minutes away from our affordable Brisbane accommodation. Ticket prices range from $10-$30. 

3. Brisbane Heat home games

Women’s cricket is  gaining a lot of popularity in Australia, thanks to the Women’s Big Bash League. On your holiday, you’ll get a chance to watch Brisbane’s home team – Brisbane Heat play their home games at the Gabba. Like I mentioned earlier, nothing beats the experience of being at the Gabba to watch a game live!

Brisbane Heat play at the Gabba on December 26-27, January 14-15 and January 20-21. The Gabba is just 7-minutes away from our Brisbane accommodation. 

4. Brisbane Roar Hyundai A-League Season

The 12th season of the A-League is currently underway and all of Australia is pretty excited. You can join in all the excitement and fun by watching Brisbane Roar play their home games in this tournament. Feel your pulse race as top footballers play hard to win the prestigious A-League.

Brisbane Roar will be playing on December 23, January 7 and 28, February 3 and 25, March 25 an April 2 and 16. Matches will be held at the Suncorp Stadium, which is a 10-minute drive from the Brisbane accommodation we offer here at Bridgewater Terraces.

Tickets for these football matches range from $16-$25. 

5. Brisbane Bandits Professional Baseball

If you enjoy baseball, then you should try and catch the Brisbane Bandits in action. Brisbane’s very own professional baseball team – Brisbane Bandits are the reigning champions of the Australian Baseball League. Drop by on a game day to experience great sporting action, delicious food and an excellent atmosphere when the Bandits take the field.

Watch the Brisbane Bandits in action from December 29-31, January 12-15 and January 19-22. All matches will be held at the Holloway Field. This is a short 15-minute drive from Bridgewater Terraces’ Brisbane accommodation.

Ticket prices for these baseball matches range from $8-$17. 

6. Brisbane International

Brisbane International is part of the ATP and WTA tennis tournaments to be held in Australia every year. This is a major tennis event which features top players from all over the world. This year, Rafael Nadal will be participating in this tournament as well. Make sure not to miss out on all the excitement!

Watch your favourite tennis stars in action at Brisbane International on January 1 and January 8. Brisbane International will be held at the Queensland Tennis Centre. This event is a 15-minute drive away from Bridgewater Terraces.

Ticket prices for these tennis matches range from $20-$50.

These include the Queensland Bulls home games, the Commonwealth Bank Test Match, the Brisbane Heat home games, Brisbane Roar Hyundai A-League Season, Brisbane Bandits Professional Baseball matches and Brisbane International tennis tour.
