Free Things to Do on a Brisbane Holiday

The truth is you don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to enjoy Brisbane. There are so many activities you can do without spending a single dime. For example in Brisbane’s CBD you can participate in a historical or heritage trail.

Your tour may begin in the Queensland Botanic Gardens, found at the heart of the city. It has been built around two centuries ago by prisoners who planted crops for the colony’s supply. Today it has hundreds of floral species you can appreciate during your walk. You may also proceed to the Brisbane River and get a good look of the Kangaroo Point.

You can then proceed to the Old Treasury Building, which is now a growing casino. Across it is the Parliament House with its Renaissance-style architecture.

If you have no budget for shopping you may just check out the various shopping centers within the vicinity. Some of them are enclosed while others are in arcade style. The items they normally sell can be from local companies or designers or international ones. One of the best places to check out will be Chinatown in Fortitude Valley. You will surely be impressed of its massive Chinese gates with stone guard lions weighing thousands of pounds.

There are also plenty of parks all around Brisbane. You can play football or cricket in Newfarm Park, be in awe of the Arbour in South Bank Parklands or have a small picnic in Captain Burke Park. These parks also have their own biking or cycling trails, walking paths, and swing and slide sets for the children. You can also just lounge on the benches or the sheds.

At Kangaroo Point, you can admire the one-of-a-kind unique rock formation from various years of mining. You can reach the city by crossing the Story Bridge, which is only few minutes away from the main center of the point. The bridge is cantilever. On top you may see people trying to cross the more or less 1,000-meter pathway.

There are also several events that happen in Brisbane. Don’t miss out the QBD Riverfire during Brisbane Festival or the largest gathering of animals and number of competitions at the Ekka.

Bridgewater Terraces also offers more saving ways for travelers. The affordable self-contained Kangaroo Point apartment accommodation is found within few minutes away from these excellent attractions. The resort-style apartment complex also has its own swimming pool, gym, sauna, Jacuzzi, and barbecue area.
